Hiya lovies,

I'm back! I have a festival post planned but don't have time for it today sadly! Until then I want to announce that my love affair with O.P.I. has started.

I had never really looked at O.P.I. before and was a bit annoyed with them really for introducing the whole 'crackle effect' nail varnish stuff.  Sorry, NOT a fan!

But, my good pal got me a varnish for my birthday and O.P.I. are officially back in my good books!

Here is the beautiful 'Show it and Glow it' - how pretty??!?!?!!!

The glitter in this polish is absolutely amazing. I'm not a huuuuge fan of glitter polishes because I tend to be disappointed and I'm sure everyone is aware how annoying they are to remove. Whilst removing this polish is still difficult, the pure density of the glitter makes up for it!

One layer is perfect over a dark colour to just add a bit of sparkle but 2 layers gives you this beautiful (and annoying to photograph) glitterball effect.

Love, love, love!!!!

Sound as a Pound...MUA

I am seriously loving Superdrug at the moment, what with the MUA range, the arrival of the beauty card and a range of false eyelashes!! Excited is an understatement!!

For those of you who don't know, MUA (Make Up Academy) has created a makeup line, exclusive to Superdrug and everything is a pound!? Literally a pound, it's unbelievable. Now, in all honesty, i'm not usually a fan of uber cheap make up but as soon as I saw the bright blue eyeliner, I just had to give them a try!!

These eyeliners are truly amazing, I am super impressed! They go on so smoothly and are so bright! The lid also has a built in sharpener and did I mention that they are a pound!! Amazing!

MUA have also recently released a PRO line of it's products and the most expensive product is £4!? I am definitely going to investigate, so expect a MUA haul/review some time soon!

By the way, apologies for the picture on the left- I had to use my boyfriend's hand- hence the hairiness haha. (Colours used- Royal Blue, Turquoise and Gold Nugget)

Sometimes I wish I was Mary Poppins...

So first and foremost the title of the this post is a complete lie. I wish I was Mary Poppins ALL the time; the woman could fly using an umbrella! The only time that happens to me is when then wind is too strong and it usually results in me hopping along as if I'm losing tug of war, my brolly turning inside out and possibly, if I'm lucky, me falling over.

Anyway, the reason I wish I was she tonight is because her bag could fit a whole standing lamp in, amongst other things, and would still be fine for cabin luggage! (Also, it was a carpet bag and man, I LOVE those.) Anyway, to the point of this post- PACKING. I bloody hate it. Packing enough for a week of currently indeterminable weather into one 50cm x 40cm x 20cm bag is not fun.

So here is how I got on!

My very fashionable bag filled with clothes. I will try my best to get some half decent pictures while I am away and can post festival outfits then, so I won't bore you with details now!

Make-up wise I have had to pack quite a lot. We plan to go on a night out, then there will be normal day time make up, festival day time make-up, additional make-up for if and when I tan and so on and so forth! Here is my make-up bag all full to the brim - ooops - and everything which it is filled with!

I love this bag. I got it from Boots at Christmas. It was labelled as a toiletries bag but I don't know anyone who would fit full size shampoos and things in here! It is amazing though, and can fit loads of bulky make-up items in!

Obviously a lot of these can't go into my actual make up bag as they have to go in the wee see through bag (Mary Poppins never had these issues; her medicines could float about in her bag willy nilly.) Absolute trauma trying to fit everything in but I eventually managed!!

After that, it's just the final essentials! Passport, tickets, facewipes, purse, phone, ipod etc.! I am also taking some of Lush's 'Toothy Tabs' to try out from their 'Dirty' range. I thought they would be perfect for festivals so a review of those will be coming up when I'm back!

Wish me luck and good weather!!

Ring finger Manicure

Hi Sweeties, so..ever since I saw the "Ring finger manicure" erm..somewhere (cannot for the life of me remember where I first saw this, sorry) I have wanted to try it! After deliberating over colours for what felt like approximately half my life, I have finally had a go!!!

I know, I know, red and green should never be seen or is it blue and green !? Well anyway, I was trying to use THE most clashing colours ever to start with but i'm not sure i'm a fan tbh, although I might try rocking this look at Christmas.

After my first, somewhat hideous attempt, I decided to try a more subtle version, keeping the nails the same colour but adding a little bit of sparkle to my ring finger! It's such simple way to "jazz" up plain nails and I actually think this looks quite cute.

There are so many diff ways to do this manicure, the options are literally endless, well..depending on how brave you're feeling. On a final note, I've just been having a cheeky Google and it turns out, this manicure has been gaining popularity super quickly in New York, Miami and London, thus meaning I am super cool and on trend woo woo!

Possible new obsession!

Just wanted to give a quick mention to Kinvara Skincare who I received some samples from this week. I have quite easily aggravated skin so I have yet to fully road test these for fear of breaking out before I go away but I am far too impatient to wait until I get back so I have tried out both products once.

I requested a sample of the Ultra cleansing face oil and the lovely Joanne at Kinvara was kind enough to send me two little samples of that and a sample of the face serum.

must learn to take pictures before I start using!
I tend to be a bit iffy with cleanser, especially in oil form as I don’t like the way it feels  on my hands but this stuff was lovely and smelt absolutely divine – after some mooching of their leaflet I have decided I think it is the Jojoba which smells so good! The product claims to clean skin and remove stubborn makeup and it really did live up to my expectations. My mascara came off with minimum effort and no irritation to the eyes, as a soap and water girl usually I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of scrubbing involved!

The serum is absolutely amazing. I have to admit I had no idea what a face serum was or why I would use one before I was sent this sample. Kinvara say that the product rebalances and hydrates your skin, soothes any inflammation, encourages cell regeneration and fights wrinkles – all fine by me! Again this stuff smells amazing and you only need the tiniest amount and can use alone or with a moisturiser. It doesn't leave your skin feeling oily or greasy it just feels smooth and fabulous!  I definitely think I will be purchasing a full size bottle of this when I run out.

I will probably review the cleansing oil properly when I have a chance to use it more but you can request samples of any of their products on the website here.

Lush and other drugs...

I am addicted to Lush. I cannot go into that shop without buying something, and when I go in for something specific, I cannot only buy that. Today I went in to pick up a second tub of the Marilyn Hair mask and ended with a face mask too!

Seeing as I'm not going to be able to wash my hair at the festival I wanted to give it some TLC before I go! The Marilyn hair mask is amazing for us blondes, especially if you dye your hair. It really lightens up your roots and dye and gives you a bit longer before you have to get it re-done. It also smells amazing - like bananas - and keeps your hair feeling soft and lovely. The only con for this product it is slightly hard to use as it is sooo runny and slops about the place! You apply it to dry hair and leave it for 20 minutes before washing. It cost around £7.90 and I reckon I will get 4 applications with my shoulder length but hellishly thick hair!

The face mask I got was cosmetic warrior which claims to be a ‘superhero face mask to combat spots, cleanse dirt and calm and soothe all troubled skins’. In a mad attempt to have beautiful skin for next week so that minimal makeup can be worn at the festival I had high hopes for this. I have used it once, on Saturday, and it does seem to have helped somewhat! I plan on using it again tonight. The picture shows one use so I think I will get a fair few uses out of this and it was around £5.50. The consistency is almost porridge-y and after you half left it for a while it seeps into your skin and only the lumpy bits remain leaving you looking slightly like a messy toddler at breakfast time but I quite liked it! When washing off there is no tight feeling that I know a lot of people don't like but it does leave your skin feeling quite dry which makes me think it wouldn't be the best thing to use if your skin is already a bit dry. A further word of warning, before purchasing give this product a whiff because unlike any other Lush product, this stuff reeks and is definitely not one for the faint hearted!

I'm also getting a spray tan tomorrow as I am as pale as milk and this does not sit well with me wearing shorts! Obviously need a good scrub tonight to ensure the best results and my ABSOLUTE favourite exfoliator for this sort of thing is Soap and Glory's Flake Away.

This stuff is amazing! It's a super fine sugar scrub that leaves your skin amazingly soft and it feels lovely to rub in - really feels like you're doing something good for your skin! It is possibly a bit rough for every day use but fine for a weekly scrub down! I will also be using some of Soap and Glory's The Righteous Butter. This stuff is also amazing, I generally can't praise Soap and Glory products enough but this one really is such a nice thickness and leaves your skin feeling fabulous! I'm not sure how much these are but I'm pretty sure they will be around the ten pound mark, definitely worth it though as they last for ages. Boots have a 3 for 2 offer on all Soap and Glory products at the moment also.

So, that's my plan for getting myself all prepared for my little trip and the festival, I will probably inform you of my traumas attempting to pack everything I need for a week into a cabin luggage bag tomorrow!

Who Posts in a Blog like this?

As a less essay-ish way of letting people know a bit about us we have both answered 10 pretty life changing questions about ourselves...

(Please note, I say less essayish but I babble and so some of my answers are slightly lengthy)

How old are you?
Rox: 23, gosh I am getting old,
Ash: 23 also, woe!

Where are you from/where do you live?
Rox: I am from the lovely Leeds but I have lived in London for the last 2 years-I’m a total traitor to the north
Ash: I am from the even lovelier Bradford but have barely lived there. I too am a traitor as I now live on the wrong side of the Penines in Manchester.

What Make up could you not live without
Rox: Definitely mascara! I can’t live without it, Ash thinks I spend too much time putting it on but I just can’t get enough of it!!
Ash: She definitely does spend forever applying it - madness! I am going to take foundation out of the equation, as a future lawyer I'm pretty sure foundation is one of my basic human rights. So... I'm still going to have two (quickly becoming obvious who the rebel in this blogging partnership is...) for daytime I would say lippy and for night time I would say mascara(or falsies - usually both)

What is your favourite make up brand?
Rox: has to be MAC, I am totally in love with their foundation, their eye shadows are amazing and I just  love the stores (hate having to queue to get in though)
Ash: This is hard because I like different places for different things! Although I don’t own that much MAC, I adore the bits I have so maybe MAC (Although I disagree with Rox about loving their stores, the lighting is always so mental in there!)I do think that their eyeshadows, while lovely, are no more pigmented that Sleek ones or even MUA ones and the MAC mascara I have used was terrible so… swings and roundabouts!
Rox: That's true about the lighting, last week they colour matched me two shades lighter because it was so bright in there..nightmare..annnnyway, I mean how nicely everything is set out and how you there are specific sections for you to go in depending on what you want, with people in each section to help you!

What is your favourite beauty product?
Rox: No7 face wipes, I know they are £7.50 (£7 up north) but they are amazing!!! They make your skin super soft and I can’t not have them now. Plus, if you use one of the boots £5 off vouchers, you can get them for £2.50- bargainous!
Ash: Sudocrem. 'Nuf said. Also, No.7 vouchers are available now!!

What is your favourite clothes shop?
Rox: New look mixed with ASOS. Does ASOS count as a clothes shop???
Ash: This changes from season to season but at the moment H&M is my heaven.

What is your best beauty tip?
Rox:’s taken forever for me to think of this one! And I don’t even think this can be counted as a tip and you all probably do this anyway, but when doing your makeup, put your foundation on last just in case you get powder on your cheeks, that way you can just use a face wipe to get rid of any fall out without ruining half of your foundation.
Ash: I have two (flouting the rules again). 1) Always rub your moisturiser up your neck and face – I literally have no idea whether this actually does anything or not but I will be damned if I start rubbing different ways and go all saggy. I have a fear that my face will be saggy and jowly when I get old(er). As you will see from my daily make up post I will be posting tonight, I have admirably volumous cheeks. I hope my forceful upwards moisturising keeps them adjacent to my nose and not underneath my chin! 2) Finish every shower with cold water for as long as you can handle. Not luke warm, not a bit nippy but the coldest setting. I used to just do this for my hair (as it’s supposed to make it look shinier) and face (to close my pores) but a friend who may or may not read this blog informed me that it’s good for keeping the old chest area where it should be too, again, no idea if this is true or not but now I have been informed I shan’t be stopping! I also like to splash cold water after I wash my face generally for pore closing purposes.
What is your favourite perfume?
Rox: At the moment I am obsessed with Ultraviolet by Paco Rabanne- although the bottle is so irritating and makes me want to scream every time I use it.
Ash: This changes all the time as I am a perfume whore but at the moment I am loving Nina Ricci 'Lucky Day' during the day and Givenchy 'Hot Couture' for the night. My all time favourite is probably Valentino V which I have a huge half full bottle of at home but the doo-dah at the top, the sprayer thingy is broken – heartbroken – if anyone knows how I can fix it I would LOVE to know!

What is your favourite colour?
Rox: Pink pink PINK!!!! I have a pink iPhone, a pink laptop, I am obsessed!
Ash: Greeeeen! The only reason my font colour isn't green is because there wasn't a green which went with the blog scheme - woe.

3 random facts about yourself

  1. I have a bit of a shoe addiction and have 17 pairs of platform heels with me in London (I have more shoes up north)..someone take my bank card away..PLEASE!
  2. I went to boarding school and was made head girl of the houses…despite nearly being kicked out 2 months before.
  3. My family lived in Germany for 10 years, I was there for 4 years…I still can’t speak German.
  1. My pinkie fingers bend inwards and I have joints I wouldn't wish on anyone!
  2. I actually hate being called Ash by certain people, these certain people change practically daily as per my own whim
  3. I have a poem published somewhere out there in a book called something like 'Poems for Children by Children.' I wrote it when I was about 8 and it was about being scared of the dark. I am not now, nor have I ever been, scared of the dark – that’s just how talented I am poetically….
So, we hope you feel like you know us a little better now. We can't wait to get posting properly and have some fun posts lined up including hauls, reviews, tips, make up looks, outfit looks and loads more!

Welcome Message..

Welcome to BeautySparkles, we are so excited to start this blog, I know we are a little late joining the party, but shh..we are finally here.

We are two best friends who have a shared love of anything and everything beauty/fashion related and that's about
as far as the similarities between us go. Seriously, the differences are ridiculous.

We have tried so hard to try and categorise our blog but it's impossible, i guess you could say it will be about makeup, fashion and a little bit of randomness. From product reviews to clothing hauls to telling you about random offers/competitions you might want to know about, our aim is simply to create an informative but fabulously fun blog.

Feel free to comment on any of our posts and message us if there's something you want us to do a review on or want to see more of.

Enjoy beauty lovers.
